Some of my favorite pieces in our home are the ones that almost got left behind.

I found these ottomans on Facebook Marketplace for $15, but I could not get past the original legs. They felt so disjointed. So I swapped them out, and suddenly they became one of my favorite pieces in the room.

A good Facebook Marketplace find is rarely about what it is. It’s about what it could be.

Pattern play feels intimidating until you realize you don’t have to get it “right” for it to work.

It’s one of the most overthought parts of decorating. The easiest way to start is by layering pattern in places that are easy to change:

• curtains
• pillow covers
• tablecloths
• sheets and bedding

These pieces can completely change the feeling of a room without a huge commitment.

A simple rule: mix one larger-scale pattern with one smaller, simpler one. Think floral + stripe, gingham + block print, plaid + tiny floral. As long as the colors feel related, it usually works better than you think.
