It’s one of the most overthought parts of decorating. The easiest way to start is by layering pattern in places that are easy to change:

• curtains
• pillow covers
• tablecloths
• sheets and bedding

These pieces can completely change the feeling of a room without a huge commitment.

A simple rule: mix one larger-scale pattern with one smaller, simpler one. Think floral + stripe, gingham + block print, plaid + tiny floral. As long as the colors feel related, it usually works better than you think.
