Swapping out a boob light is a small change that can make a HUGE difference in a space - so we rounded up a bunch of boob light alternatives across a wide range of price points and styles :) #lighting #homedecor #design
The blank wall is totally transformed – two matching media units (The Torme, from Article) created a low long built-in look that not only created a lot of record and game storage but was a great surface and grounding element for a gallery wall above. Each unit features adjustable shelves inside and soft close fronts but the real kicker are the thoughtful design details – those rounded legs and beveled doors are chef’s kiss. And yes, that is a Frame TV (non-spon, just can’t stop using them) along with a few other pieces that Kaitlin sourced from The Yo Store, Schoolhouse, World Market, plus a few vintage paintings (and Gretchen even made her that little painting up top). It’s SO GOOD.

A GIRL’S BEDROOM: I made over my 9 year old niece’s bedroom. What I didn’t realize (first-time pre-tween mom here) is how much their likes and dislikes will change, like monthly. So with K’s room, I, of course, asked her her current likes and dislikes, colors, etc. but I intentionally left it so that if and when her styles or color preferences change, it wouldn’t be a big expense. And yet this room is actually full of a lot of color and so many high-quality pieces which are all from AllModern. I feel so grateful we got to give her these really special pieces that she will easily grow with.

I don’t know what I love more – that incredible wavy lampshade on that green lamp – $70!!!!! FOR BOTH!!! Or that really good oxblood dome lamp (splurgier, but very powerful and makes a fast statement in any room). The mustard velvet ottoman is in my home and pairs so pretty with my blue velvet chair. But the Schoolhouse blanket? Certainly a splurge but it’s so incredible – if you have a basic bed or sofa and you want to punch up your room – a pattern like this does it INSTANTLY. And don’t forget that Rejuvenation has incredible velvet pillows in really rich colors (and some neutrals) for those of you who don’t want a pattern).

I’m really into velvet apparently, as almost all of these pillows are – it’s just such a pretty texture in really rich colors. The round blue pillow – special and such a punch. The blue/green velvet pillow is also excellent (and the same pattern comes as curtains which look so expensive and custom – patterned curtains are so back, y’all).

HOLIDAY LIGHT REVIEW!!! We are doing what many chic designers say NOT to do (they fear it’s tacky? I call BS) putting up colorful lights because the Hendersons want colorful Christmas lights on our house. The house is bright white and during these dark months, we want color, not more cold lights. But finding the right colorful LED lights is hard so I tested a bunch on our shed. Brian came outside and immediately picked one, I agreed, so we went with it. They are the C9 OptiCore Multicolor LED-style lights. Do we love them? YES. But once they were strung up they were pretty darn bright.

We chose the 100 lights for 100 feet (aka one per foot) and it’s pretty dang bright at night, so I think if I could go back in time (which I can’t) I would go with the 75 per 150 feet (aka one every two feet). Also, be warned that the 100 light package comes unassembled – you have to screw the bulb into the string – but they are shatterproof (even though they look like glass).

More importantly for those of you who want legit warm LED white lights, these are THE BEST. Many white lights say they are “warm” but they aren’t – they are still kinda cold and they look corporate and not cozy. We tested these and they are legit warm and beautiful. My brother put them on their house and they love them.

So in conclusion, if you are going colorful, we love the C9 OptiCore Multicolor LED-style lights (just choose the number of lights carefully) and for white lights, we love these ones.

The glassware that I collected on the shelves are just better than basic – the two-toned glasses are thick and special (and splurgier) while the purple goblets are affordable and so rich. And don’t forget the $8 glass candle holders – so good, so pretty, so affordable. I have them on my coffee table.

Welcome to my 2024 home gift guide – where I did things very differently this year. After years of combing websites to find the good stuff and then making graphics to show you, I decided to treat myself to days and days of IRL product testing and vetting at my favorite retailers (small business and makers gift guide is still in the works, FYI) and collected a ton of really good stuff – ranging from $3 to $200 (most under $100).

We have used that Target marble catchall in like 4 shoots recently, as a testament to how good it is (think nuts on coffee table, jewelry in bathroom, keys in entry, etc). And don’t get me started on the bright blue butter dish (which is one of the few things not from a national retailer but I wanted to give it some love – I love Pigeon Toe Ceramics).

In here I found some pretty awesome stuff for the kitchen that I couldn’t believe how cute and affordable it was – the light blue covered baking dish? SO CUTE (great for sides but also comes bigger in white). The footed blue/green vessel(under $20) and the scallop candle holder (could be year-round on the dining table with nonholiday candles) – both are styling staples. As you can see all of these pieces have something really special about them – either the shape, the texture (the scallop, the round ribbing), or the perfect color.

The red stripe napkins are $3 each and while of course, they are excellent Christmas napkins, red is having such a moment that I’d use it in spring and summer, too. They feel really high quality. The glassware that I collected on the shelves are just better than basic – the two-toned glasses are thick and special (and splurgier) while the purple goblets are affordable and so rich. And don’t forget the $8 glass candle holders – so good, so pretty, so affordable. I have them on my coffee table.

The green blender is countertop worthy (I just bought it for myself and love it), and while that tissue box cover is on the splurgy side it also comes in black and white and it’s metal. Let’s just say it brings me more joy than I originally predicted (I also love the tray version of it and have it on my coffee table).

All of these are STAND OUT pieces in my mind – some simpler (like a really good-looking but affordable notepad) and some pretty epic (like the velvet lamp that is under $100). The most perfect color for a Dutch oven for $40 (which Emily M. bought from me because it’s so pretty) and that excellent bright blue round pillow from Schoolhouse (and Clare V. collection).

As you can see, we have some fall motifs – the plaid runner, the amber candle holders (and candlesticks), one mustard napkin, some fall leaves and you know, THE HUGE CERAMIC TURKEY. But beyond that, it’s just white plates, with green napkins, glassware, and pretty silver flatware. All these things work year-round in my house (which leans green/blue modern farmhouse).

I think it’s fun to think of some of these colors, patterns, and elements as “seasonal indicators”. Fall branches + mustard + a warm plaid + Turkey = Thanksgiving. Some scattered pine cones or wicker/wood elements for turkey day and you get the same “vibe”.
The prettiest handmade butter holder for those of us who love to keep butter out near the stove. I have the blue, but the white one would be a really safe gift for anyone who likes butter and good design.

Here’s how I took my Thanksgiving tablescape to Christmas (using work-anywhere products from Crate & Barrel): I switched out the runner, added red candlesticks, a pop of red with the ornament, and those green trees. In person this felt appropriately “Christmas brunch” and you bet we put on Mariah Carey.

I LOVE those trees (they match my dining chairs and my sofas perfectly so they are my new Christmas element this year).

The red candlesticks even make the amber candleholders look more festive. It tricks your eye. The red and white ticking stripe runner could be great on a buffet (or in our case our island where we put out all the food for our casual 30-person ornament exchange party).

You don’t need special dishware or glasses - just add a few holiday signifiers and call it a (holi)day :) #CratePartner

This room actually turned out pretty darn GREAT after much tweaking (and a big shout out to my favorite rug from our RugsUSA collection – the Merrick). It’s calm, cozy, high functional, and objectively well designed – it just turned out different than I had intended, although TBH I didn’t have a clear direction (thus the problem). It’s easy to keep neat/tidy (mostly thanks to the large closet down the hall – bless that closet) and on Sunday mornings I let the kids watch TV while I throw on the fire, read my romance novels, and feel so grateful that I have this beautiful, inviting, and cozy bedroom. And listen, the challenges were all self-imposed because this room is basically a new build so I also got to learn a lot. Win/win (kinda).

#LTKfamily #LTKstyletip #LTKhome
Here she is! I think our powder room turned out so sweet, fun, with some unexpected moments. Definitely not too simple, but full of character – probably how a powder bath should be. (Shout out to Rejuvenation for their articulating light and all the switches. I love how the sconce comes out from the side, slightly unexpectantly and creates such a fun vignette over the sink. It brings a little bit of polish and finish that balances out all the vintage in here!)

#LTKCyberWeek #LTKhome #LTKsalealert
Another angle of our one month bedroom makeover for our photographer, Kaitlin. We mixed pieces she already had (like the walnut dresser from West Elm) with a few new pieces from Bed Bath & Beyond (can you believe the price on that wicker lamp?!). Sprinkle in some new bedding from Brooklinen and voila - a comfy, cozy, warm room that’s ready for the cooler months :)

#LTKhome #LTKSeasonal #LTKCyberWeek
A warm and cozy bedroom in a classic fall palette? DONE. Key highlights: these pleated sconces (on sale!), a new mattress and luxe bedding (all on sale!) and a few scores from Bed Bath & Beyond (you guessed it - on sale! Also, they carry furniture and decor now???).

#LTKCyberWeek #LTKsalealert #LTKhome
We didn’t need a ton of storage in here, just enough for games and puzzles really. But the real problem that we had was not having a surface for lamps or drinks. Since the sofa is slammed up against the far wall and there was hardly any room for a side table on this side of it, we needed a sofa table. Enter this bookcase from Pottery Barn that fits PERFECTLY along the back of the sofa and is where my wine or tea sits when I’m watching TV (as well as those gorgeous lamps). It looks fully integrated and almost like it was professionally designed!

#LTKCyberWeek #LTKhome #LTKfamily
I DESIGNED AN AFFORDABLE RUG LINE! (That’s right - even the 100% wool 10’x14’ rugs are under $900 - and even more affordable with holiday sale pricing now!) I really leaned into “Scandinavian Farmhouse” for this first launch. Think simple, warm neutrals, and blues in vintage-inspired Scandinavian patterns and textures that feel really transitional, cozy, and classic.

#LTKhome #LTKCyberWeek #LTKGiftGuide
I hereby present our Halloween front porch! Mixed vintage, what we already had (those bins of holiday decor in your basement are good enough, I promise - you don’t need to spend a ton for every holiday!), a few natural elements, and topped it off with a few affordable decor finds. Stay tuned to see this space at night - it gets even better 👻

#LTKfamily #LTKhome #LTKHalloween
We’re officially ready to host for the holidays, folks! I wanted to make a fresh, fun, fall tablescape and ANTHRO DELIVERED. Mixed some unexpected colors (purple! mauve! brick! blue! moss! amber!) and I LOVE how it turned out. If you’re also on the hunt for fall decor that you’ll be able yo use year round, you’ve gotta check out the Anthropologie site ASAP!

#LTKfamily #LTKhome #LTKHoliday
Before / after. For a no-fail holiday table this Thanksgiving, opt for an all-white setup - it’s classic, simple, affordable, and it’ll feel like fall the MINUTE the turkey hits the table. Thoughts?

#LTKparties #LTKhome #LTKHoliday
Ready to host the holidays over here! The table was custom-sized from a design by Elsie Green – a small furniture maker (with reclaimed material) in the Bay Area. It’s incredibly perfect for this space. We needed narrow (but not too narrow) and really long (120″), and I wanted curved ends and some round legs to offset all the squares from the tile and the windows. The chairs could not be more perfect with the table – the soft curve on the back was also what I wanted (to offset the squares) and the velvet feels so warm, comfortable, and earthy in a room with no other textiles. This room needed fabric (as most rooms do) and not just wood chairs with wood table and wood credenza.
