Crinkle sensory toys are great to help stimulate fine motor skills development. The crinkle helps keep babies stimulated. Then, engaging with the texture the baby learns the concept of cause and effect. Check these out for fun ways to entertain your little one.

Activities for a 3 month old:

Use a playmat or play gym to encourage movement, like reaching and rolling.
While you’re sitting on the floor in front of a couch, lay your baby on their tummy facing you. This allows time to practice lifting their head to see and interact with you. (Be sure that you are right there with them the whole time!)
Sing songs with motions like “Itsy, Bitsy Spider,” “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes,” and “Wheels on the Bus.” Help move your baby’s arms to make the motions while you are singing.
Encourage your baby to explore their hands or feet by tickling them or clapping them together.
Play around with tracking objects. Move objects slowly across your baby’s field of vision (about 10 inches away from them) to allow them to track the movement with their eyes. Your baby may even begin to bat at the object soon!

If sleep support isn’t enough to help your baby or toddler fall asleep, consider ways to help increase comfort. This could mean suctioning their nose if congestion is making it difficult to breathe, adding a humidifier to the room to help loosen up congestion, or giving Tylenol or Motrin if the fever and body aches are preventing sleep. (Be sure to check with your pediatrician about dosages.)

Safe sleep options are labeled as: “crib,” “bassinet,” “portable crib,” or “play yard.” Anything by any other label is not safe for sleep. This includes: nappers, loungers, sleepers, nests, seats, bouncers, swings, or anything by any other name.

If your baby falls asleep while nursing or bottle feeding, here are some great strategies to try:
Start with a diaper change to help your baby wake up a bit. You might also add in a diaper change halfway through the feeding.
Try rubbing a damp cloth on your baby’s face and chest.
Talk to your baby or let them hold a small rattle/crinkle toy to keep them stimulated.
See my blog, “Baby Falls Asleep While Nursing”, for more tips and tricks: https://takingcarababies.com/baby-falls-asleep-while-nursing#how-do-i-keep-my-baby-awake-for-a-feeding
If it feels impossible to keep your baby awake during a feeding or if feeding to sleep is the only way to get your little one to sleep, my classes can help. Each of my classes will give you developmentally appropriate tools to teach your baby to fall asleep more independently, get those important full feedings, and help you all get the rest you need to thrive.
