How cool are these kids safe materials?!

I had no idea that rubber pavers were a thing, I also didn’t know that faux rock edging was a thing!

The faux rock edging comes in a bunch of different colors and heights too! It’s safe to weed whack and it’s safe for the elements.

The rubber pavers were a great alternative to putting in brick in the kids picnic areas and water table area because it is safer if they fall.

I was also so excited when I found fall safe rubber tiles that make climbing areas safer. These rubber tiles come in 1 inch, 2 inch and almost 3 inch thickness, depending upon the height of the fall!

To make a DIY magnetic chalkboard all you need is four pieces of material.

You start out by cutting 1/2in plywood into your desired shape, we cut ours into a house.

Then you take galvanized sheet metal and cut it into the same shape.

Adhere the galvanized sheet metal to the plywood, using liquid nails and let it for 24 hours.

We taped down our edges to make them extra secure while it was drying.

Then you paint it with matte black exterior paint, this works better than chalk paint. And that’s it! We decided to add a frame around ours using, 2x3’s.

To build our sandbox we started off by using 4x4 to build the 4 posts. We made each post 12in tall.

We then used 2x6’s to build the walls. We did two high on each side. I wouldn’t recommend making your sandbox larger than 6x6 because most sandbox covers (available on Amazon) only go up to 6x6.

After attaching the walls to the posts (using 3in screws), we cut the 1/2in maple plywood to make the floor to the sandbox. We then attached the floor to the sandbox using 1 3/4in screws.

I then painted the sandbox in the color “Macadamia” by Valspar.

We then framed out a wall (to the desired length) using 2x3’s and used the 1/2in maple plywood to make the front of the wall.

For the detailing on the front of the accent wall, we got prefabricated siding (it’s linked as plywood panel siding) and attached it to the wall with a brad nailer.

We also made a house shaped, magnetic chalkboard that I will include a tutorial for in a separate video.

I painted both the chalkboard and the accent wall in “Cool Pine” by Valspar and attached them to the sandbox using 3in screws.

We used the poplar board as the shelf and tradition cabinet knobs as the hooks. We attached both these to the accent wall.

I laid weed barrier along the bottom of the sandbox and filled the sand box with 20, 50lb bags of sand.

We then used the remaining 1/2in maple plywood to cut four seats for each of the corners.
